ABOUT GRACIE LOOKADOO

Gracie Lookadoo is a fresh, up-and-coming voice in the music scene.  As a passionate and committed artist, she is a multifaceted individual with the talent and drive to succeed.  After realizing that a traditional music performance degree wasn't for her, Gracie changed her major to music technology with a minor in digital arts.  She has since released her debut full length album, Corona Borealis, under the band name August Moon and works as the producer and photographer for South Carolina based rock band, Sidecar.  Gracie is also the Executive Station Manager of WHAT Radio at Stetson University in Florida, where she hosts a rock genre show called "MetalMouth."  Though only 21 years old, she has performed twice in Carnegie Hall, toured Italy, and established herself as a cellist who specializes in contemporary and electronic technique.  In her spare time, Gracie explores her skills as a photographer.  Explore her portfolio and feel free to get in touch with any comments or business inquiries.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I grew up knowing that as a musician, I would need to become skilled in multiple aspects of artistry in order to make a living.  This phrase was always said to me in the grave kind of tone that plummets like a rock to pit of one’s gut, but I’ve found it to be a blessing as I’ve grown into my path.  I didn’t quite fit in with the classical musicians, or the SoundCloud producers, or the ludomuscicologists and acoustic ecologists.  I’m not a MIDI lover, sound designer, a foley artist, a programmer or a field recorder, though I’ve worn each of those hats many a time.  The roles I play are diverse, though my goals remain constant: to create art worth listening to.  This, of course, is hardly revolutionary; I’m certain every artist thinks this of their work and their voice, but there’s the rub.  Voice is one of those vague yet utterly crucial aspects to making something memorable.
Throughout my portfolio, I strive to bring an authentic, raw edge to everything I produce, regardless of genre or medium.  It’s more than just emotion - it’s the history of my craft carved into the bones of the sound, if you know where to look.  I am a classically trained cellist who grew up listening to jazz and R&B, who fell off that train somewhere along the line and took a left turn at rock and metal. I desperately wanted to be one of those pop music cellists and failed, then stumbled into college and tried on ethereal singer-songwriter for size and said ‘that’s not enough’, so I changed majors to audio production.  I went back to the classical world, this time as a recording engineer, picked up garage rock production, dove headfirst without a map into live sound, field recording, foley, narration, sound design, radio, and photography, then decided to attempt the modern cellist thing again and this time, I wasn’t trying to be someone else.  The best part of it all is that I’m just getting started; I’m eager to see where I go from here.
But for now, take a listen to my voice - it’s all there.

FAQ

In case my bio left you with questions

WHAT INSTRUMENTS DO YOU PLAY?

I've studied cello for 13 years and counting.  I have experience as an orchestral musician, chamber musician, private instructor, and soloist.  I have niche specialties in contemporary and modern performance techniques, and I enjoy helping composers debut their original compositions.  I also have skills as a pianist (7 years of study), modern guitarist (2 years), and classical guitarist (1 year).

WHAT STYLE OF MUSIC DO YOU PRODUCE?

I have the most experience producing rock, singer songwriter, and classical music.  I have also worked on private projects for R&B, bluegrass, and neosoul.  I grew up listening to funk/R&B, then got into the rock and metal scenes as a teenager while studying classical music.  I get most excited to produce songs of those genres, but I will jump at the opportunity to try something new!

WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?

I spend most of my shoots with South Carolina based band, Sidecar.  I particularly enjoy band photography because it allows me to work while they are in their true element.  This style also lends itself to interesting angles and lighting.  It gives me the chance to capture the band's chemistry in the moment.  I also enjoy abstract shots and portrait photography.  Check out my gallery for examples!

DO YOU PRODUCE NON-MUSIC RELATED CONTENT?

Yes! I have experience creating, hosting, recording, and producing podcasts and radio shows.  I've worked for and managed a radio station for 3 years where we handle multimedia production on top of audio.  I also have experience with foley and sound design, which is of great interest to me.

DO YOU ACCEPT COMMISSIONS?

Absolutely!  I accept commissions for recording, mixing, mastering, performance, teaching, production, live sound, session musicianship, and photography.  Get in contact with me via email and let's discuss your creative vision!

WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

I work out of central Florida (the Orlando area).  I am willing to travel in state as needed.  Because of the digital nature of my work, there are virtual options for collaboration available as well! Contact me for details and bookings!
